The foot is one of the most sensitive parts of the body, containing
over 7,200 nerve endings, all of which are stimulated during a reflexology
treatment. The feet represent a microcosm of the body, with the body's
anatomy laid-out in a similar arrangement on the soles (see below),
ie: the big toe represents the head (pituitary) and the back of the heel
represents the lower back.
Reflexology recognizes that there are 10 longitudinal zones running the length of the body,
from the top of the head, though and to the ends of the fingers and toes. The zones are of
equal width and extend right through the body from front to back. Tension in one part of a
zone can affect the rest of the organs in the same zone.
The right foot represents the right side of the body, and similarly the left foot represents the left side of
the body. The spleen located in the left of the body, has its reflex point only in the left foot. Paired
organs, such as kidneys, will have their reflex points in both feet. The zones and reflex points mapped out
on the feet create a three dimensional picture of the body, with all its systems and organs (see below).
What can I expect during my treatment?
During your session, the entire foot is worked on by applying an exercised pressure upon reflex areas to
improve the body’s nerve, blood, and lymphatic supply. Throughout the session, sensitive (painful)
areas may become appearent. That's a good thing. By working those sensitive reflex areas,
corresponding parts of the body receive improved nerve, blood and lymphatic supply, in addition to
opening and clearing energy blocks. All 12 body systems benefit: cardio-vascular, central nervous,
digestive, endocrine, immune, lymphatic, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, sensory, skeletal, and
urinary.
Why is improved nerve, blood and lymphatic supply so important?
Nearly every nerve in the body begins and ends in the hands and feet. Their purpose...to carry impulses
that instruct the body to function properly. The average human’s central nervous system is 45 miles
in length, it produces over a hundred thousand messages per second, traveling at a speed of 248 mph,
and without it, tasting, smelling, seeing, hearing, thinking, dreaming, breathing, heart beating, running,
sleeping, laughing, singing, remembering and feeling pain or pleasure wouldn’t be possible.
Therefore, proper functioning of nerve messaging is essential to life, and its malfunctions are the leading
cause of autoimmune dysfunction and dis-ease.
The purpose of the blood is to transport nutrition, glucose, and oxygen to all parts of the body. The blood
travels approximately 168,000 miles per day to supply about 60 trillion cells in the body. The heart pumps
about 103,000 times per day and it is in the hands and feet that blood transfers from arteries to veins to
return back to the heart. Stress, which can be responsible for 80 percent to 90 percent of all dis-ease,
can act like a tourniquet...wrapping around the body, squeezing so tightly that it causes a restriction of
blood flow. Improving your blood supply allows improved transportation of nutrition, immunity (white
blood cells), and oxygen which the body needs to function and to regulate properly.
The lymphatic system flows in one direction only, toward the heart, with every lymphatic vessel beginning
and ending in the hands and feet. The purpose of the lymphatic system is to cleanse and purify the body .
A healthy person’s body will rid itself of at least eight pounds of toxic waste per day through the four
channels of elimination: kidneys, bowels, skin and the breath. A weak flowing or congested lymphatic
system cannot assist in the essential daily cleansing of the body, resulting in ill health and dis-ease.

Reflex points on the medial (interior) aspect of the soles of the feet reflect and connect miraculously to their respective points on the spine. Attention to these points aids in the flushing of metabolic wastes, as well as release of blocked spinal Qi (chi), tension, & pain.
